About

Hello,

I’m Wooseok Choi. As a passionate robotics mechanical engineer, trying to deliver technologies to our life.

I’m a mechanical engineering expert in robotics systems, with a particular interest in humanoid robot mechanisms. My current projects involve a humanoid robot platform and an anthropomorphic robot hand. You can find valuable insights and materials on my projects page.

More than 15 years experience in the mechanical engineering at robotics field, that includes the humanoid robotics (the legs, the foot mechanism and the robotic hands), modular manipulator and the underwater robotics. Has a PhD degree from Italy and a master degree from South Korea, the robotics and mechanical engineering respectively, and is passionate about building robot platform and leading teams, and delivering the technology to the real products for our life and the industries as well.

Originally from South Korea, and studied in Italy and worked in Korea, Italy, Tokyo (Japan) and the USA, and is now based in Austin.

Experiences

  • Apptronik

Senior R&D Hardware Engineer – Anthropomorphic robot hands (5 fingers with tendon driven) for Humanoid robot

  • Sarcos Technology and Robotics

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Worked on an underwater manipulator (Sea Class project), and internally driving a new type of the leg structure/actuation for a humanoid robot, and collaborating cross-functionally to develop high-growth products.

  • Honda R&D – Japan

Senior Researcher – Researched on a dexterous robotic hand and finger mechanisms.

  • Italian Institute of Technology

PhD researcher – Worked on foot mechanism for a bipedal humanoid platform and leg mechanism for an adult size humanoid robot.

  • Korea Institute of Science and Technology

Post-doc & Researcher – Worked on a robotic hand development for general purpose, and a modular manipulator that can be reconfigurable in a task base.
